[워싱턴=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 미국은 파키스탄 내의 알-카에다와의 전쟁에서 미 중앙정보부 (CIA)가 운용하는 무인전투기 작전을 계속하기 위해 파키스탄의 정보당국에 무인전투기의 비행에 대해 사전 통보와 출격 수를 제한하는 제안을 했으나 면전에서 거부당한 것으로 알려졌다.
이런 사태의 진전으로 다음 달 3일 버락 오바마 미국 대통령과 파키스탄 총리와의 회담에 앞서 두 나라 관계가 긴장상태를 타개하지 못할 것이라는 예측이 나왔다.
파키스탄의 관리들은 파키스탄은 미국 CIA에 의한 자국 영토내의 독자적인 무인 전투기 작전을 허용할 수 없다고 말하고 파키스탄은 자국의 정보국이 더 이상 과거와 같이 파키스탄 영내에서 미국의 대 테러작전 팀과 합동으로 참가하지 않을 것이라고 말했다.
파키스탄의 고위 관리는 대신 미국이 정보를 알려주면 파키스탄군이 농촌지역에서 알-카에다 목표를 공격하거나 육군부대나 공군 전투기로 목표물을 공격하겠다고 설명했다.

White House offers to curtail drones
WASHINGTON (AP) — In a bid to save the CIA's drone campaign against al-Qaida in Pakistan, US officials offered key concessions to Pakistan's spy chief that included advance notice and limits on the types of targets. But the offers were flatly rejected, leaving US-Pakistani relations strained as President Barack Obama prepares to meet Tuesday with Pakistan's prime minister.
Pakistan will no longer brook independent U.S. action on its territory by CIA drones, two Pakistni officials said. All the officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive negotiations.
Pakistan is saying Pakistan's intelligence service would no longer participate in joint raids with U.S. counterterrorist teams inside its country, as it had in the past.
Instead, Pakistan would demand that the U.S. hand over the intelligence, so its forces could pursue targets on their own in urban areas, or send the Pakistani army or jets to attack the targets in the tribal areas, explained a senior Pakistani official.
