[브라자빌, 콩고=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 아프리카 콩고공화국에서 수백 명의 목숨을 앗아간 군 탄약고 폭발 사고가 발생한지 하루가 지난 5일 해외에서 파견된 전문가들이 또 다른 중화기 탄약고로 화재가 옮겨 붙지 않도록 노력하고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.
“현재 러시아, 프랑스와 콩고 전문가들이 화재 진압에 나서고 있는데 이들은 중화기 탄약고에 화재가 옮겨 붙지 않도록 방재작업을 하고 있다“고 콩고 적십자사 대변인이 발표했다.
첫 번째 탄약이 폭발한지 48시간이 지난 현재도 불발탄이 여기저기서 폭발하기 때문에 건물잔해에 깔려있는 사람들의 구조가 늦어지고 있다고 알려졌다.
정부 대변인은 이번 탄약고 폭발은 전기 누전으로 발생한 것이라고 발표하고 국방장관은 폭발사건은 쿠데타나 반란과는 관련이 없다고 주민들을 안심시켰다.
4일 발생할 때 사망한 206구의 시체가 안치된 시체안치소에 5일 인근 병원에서 7구의 새로운 시체가 옮겨와 현재 총 사망자는 213명으로 집계되고 있다.

Rescuers try to keep fire from 2nd depot in Congo
BRAZZAVILLE, Republic of Congo (AP) — International experts fought to prevent a fire from reaching a second arms depot and exploding more munitions, a day after a blaze set off blasts so violent they flattened buildings, killing hundreds and trapping countless others under debris.
"For the time being, there are Russian, French and Congolese experts in the field who are trying to put out the fires. Their goal is to prevent the fires reaching a second depot of even heavier weapons," said Delphin Kibakidi, spokesman of the local Red Cross.
Nearly 48 hours after the first eruptions, rescuers still were unable to reach hundreds believed trapped under debris because of ongoing explosions that catapulted unexploded ordnance miles (kilometers) away. There are fears the many small fires ignited by the blasts could suck away oxygen needed by any entombed survivors.
Government spokesman Bienvenu Okyemi blamed a short circuit for the fire that set off the blasts. President Denis Sassou-Nguesso described the ordeal as "a tragic accident." The defense minister rushed to reassure people that the fire was not a sign of a coup or a mutiny.
A large crowd gathered outside the municipal morgue, which along with a nearby hospital had registered 206 deaths hours after the first blast on Sunday.
In two hours Monday, another seven corpses were brought in, bringing the death toll to at least 213.
