[워싱턴=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 이스라엘이 이란 핵 시설에 대한 선제공격을 감행하기 전 미국에 통보하지 않을 것이라고 이스라엘 당국자가 말한 것으로 27일 미국의 정보 당국자가 전했다.
이스라엘 당국자는 이런 결정은 이스라엘의 폭격을 막지 못했다는 책임이 미국으로 전가되는 것을 막겠다는 의도라고 말했다.
미국은 수개월동안 이스라엘의 폭격으로 이란의 핵 프로그램이 일시적 타격만을 받게 될 것이라는 설득을 해온 것으로 알려졌다.
이스라엘의 베냐민 네타냐후 총리와 에후드 바라크 국방장관과 이스라엘을 방문한 미국 합참의장, 백악관 국가 안보 보좌관, 국가정보국장은 이란의 핵무기 개발을 둘러싼 상호간의 불신을 해소하기 위해 노력해 왔다.
네타냐후 총리는 이스라엘을 방문한 모든 미국 측 대표들에게 이런 메시지를 밝힌 것으로 미국 당국자가 말했다.
이스라엘의 경고로 인해 이스라엘과 미국 간의 정상 회담에서 이란 핵무기 개발을 놓고 양국 간의 의견 차이를 극복하지 못할 것이라는 우려가 나오고 있다.
다음 주 베냐민 네타냐후 총리가 미국 버락 오바마 대통령과의 회담을 위해 방문할 예정이다.

AP source: Israel won't warn US before Iran strike
WASHINGTON (AP) — Israeli officials say they won't warn the U.S. if they decide to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iranian nuclear facilities, according to one U.S. intelligence official familiar with the discussions. The pronouncement, delivered in a series of private, top-level conversations, sets a tense tone ahead of meetings in the coming days at the White House and Capitol Hill.
Israeli officials said that if they eventually decide a strike is necessary, they would keep the Americans in the dark to decrease the likelihood that the U.S. would be held responsi for failing to stop Israel's potential attack. The U.S. has been working with the Israelis for months to persuade them that an attack would be only a temporary setback to Iran's nuclear program.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak delivered the message to a series of top-level U.S. visitors to the country, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the White House national security adviser and the director of national intelligence, and top U.S. lawmakers, all trying to close the trust gap between Israel and the U.S. over how to deal with Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Netanyahu delivered the same message to all the Americans who have traveled to Israel for talks, the U.S. official said.
The secret warning is likely to worry US officials and begin the high level meetings with Israel and the U.S. far apart on how to handle Iran.
Netanyahu arrives in Washington for meetings with President Barack Obama next week.
