[아보타바드, 파키스탄=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 파키스탄 당국은 오사마 빈 라덴이 미국 특공대에 의해 최후를 맞기 전 수년 동안 살았던 파키스탄 내 은신처에 대한 철거작업을 완료하면서 오사마 빈 라딘과의 악연에 종지부를 찍었다.
27일 파키스탄 북서부 군사 가지 도시인 아보타바드의 오사마 빈 라덴의 저택에 대한 철거 작업이 완료됐다.
알-카에다 지도자 빈 라덴은 2005년 3층짜리 저택에 입주하여 5년 동안 거주하다가 CIA에 의해 발각되어 아프간에서 출격한 헬기로 기습한 미 특공대에 의해 5월 2일 사살되어 시신은 수 시간 후에 바다에 수장됐다.
파키스탄 당국은 이 저택을 철거한 이유에 대해 설명을 하지 않고 있으나 아보타바드의 일부 주민들은 이 집을 관광지로 개발할 생각이었던 것으로 보인다.

Osama bin Laden's Pakistan home is no more
ABBOTTABAD, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani authorities have reduced the house where Osama bin Laden lived for years before he was killed by U.S. commandos to rubble, destroying a concrete symbol of the country's association with one of the world's most reviled men.
Workers completed the demolition job in the garrison town of Abottabad in northwest Pakistan on Monday.
The al-Qaida leader moved into the three-storyhouse in 2005. Acting on intelligence gathered by the CIA, a team of U.S. commandoes flew in by helicopter from Afghanistan and killed bin Laden on May 2 before dumping his body at sea hours later.
Officials did not explain why the house was destroyed. Some residents of Abbottabad thought it should be a tourist attraction, although given the sensitivities surrounding the property it was hard to see the government developing it as one.
