[워싱턴=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 미 상원의원 사무실 여러 곳에 오레곤주의 포틀랜드 소인이 찍힌 수상한 가루가 들어있는 편지가 배달된 것으로 알려졌다.
터런스 게이너 경호처장은 이 편지는 상원사무소 3곳에 배달되었으며 가루는 검사결과 무해한 것으로 밝혀졌다고 발표했다.
그는 이 협박장을 쓴 사람은 다음에는 실제로 유해 물질이 들어있는 서한을 보내겠다고 위협했다고 밝히고 연방수사대와 협조하여 조사하고 있다고 말했다.

Congressional offices receive mailed threats
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate's top law enforcement officer says congressional offices have received threatening letters containing a suspicious powdery substance.
Sergeant-at-Arms Terrance Gainer said in a memo to Senate offices that the letters were sent to three state and home district offices and that the substance was tested and found to be harmless.
Gainer said the author of the letters said that additional letters would be sent and that some of these could contain actual harmful material.
Gainer said Capitol authorities were working closely with federal and local law enforcement in the investigation.
The letters were postmarked Portland, Oregon.
