[쿠알라룸푸르=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 말레이시아는 과거 30년 기간 동안 사용한 영국작가가 집필한 성교육 책에 대해 이슬람교 운동가들이 너무 음란하다는 불평이 나온 이후 배포를 금지 했다.
내무부는 피터 메일의 “나는 어디에서 왔어요?”가 사회의 도덕과 공공의 이익을 해치는 요소를 담고 있다고 발표했다.
이 책은 생식과정을 서술하는 만화를 담고 있는데 4세에서 8세까지의 아동을 위해서 집필한 책으로 1973년 처음 출판되어 국제적 웹사이트에 올라와 있다.
최근 말레이시아 집권당의 청년조직 회원들이 한 책방에서 이 책이 눈에 띠자 지난 주 불평을 나타냈다.
내무부는 22일 성명서를 내고 이 책을 배포하는 사람에게 3년 형에 처할 수 있다고 발표했다.

Malaysia bans British author's sex education book
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia has banned a nearly 30-year-old sex education book written by a British author following complaints by Muslim activists that it is obscene.
The Home Ministry says that Peter Mayle's " Where Did I Come From?" contains "elements that undermine societal morals and public interests."
The book contains cartoons that narrate the reproductive process. It was first published in 1973 and is listed on some international websites on books as being intended for children between 4 and 8 years old.
Members of the youth wing of Malaysia's ruling party who recently noticed it at a bookstore complained last week.
The Home Ministry said in a statement Wednesday that people caught distributing the book could be jailed three years.
