[워싱턴=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 미국 공화당 대통령 예비후보인 미트 롬니를 지원하는 슈퍼팩 (슈퍼정치행동위원회)이 부유한 기업가들로부터 1월에 매달 평균 자금 모금액의 두 배를 모금했다고 정부에 제출한 재무 보고서에서 밝혔다.
‘우리 미래를 복원하자’ (Restore Our Future) 단체는 지난 달 660만 달러를 모금해 1월 말 현재 보유하고 있는 1천 600만 달러로 주요 선거 주에서 수백만 달러를 지불하며 미트 롬니의 경쟁자들을 공격하는 TV 광고 홍수를 일으키고 있다.
미국의 선거 자금 모금단체나 개인 모금 운동가들은 매달 20일 자정 (현지시간)까지 연방 선거 위원회에 전 달의 모금액과 기부자의 명단을 보고하도록 되어 있다.
이 보고서에 의해 부유층이 차기 대통령에 누구를 지원하고 있는 가와 함께 수천만 달러의 모금액이 어떻게 사용됐는지를 배후에서 정기적으로 가늠해 볼 수 있다.
지난 17일 보고된 1월 오바마 선거운동 모금액은 민주당 전국위원회와 여타 공동 모금위원회를 합해서 총 2천910만 달러를 모금한 것으로 알려졌다. 오바마를 지원하는 슈퍼팩 ‘프라이어리티즈 유에스에이 액션’(Priorities USA Action)은 아직 1월 달 보고서를 제출하지 않고 있다.

Campaigns, super PACs to release financials
WASHINGTON (AP) — A "super" political action committee supporting Republican Mitt Romney for president doubled its average fundraising haul last month, drawing upon repeat donations from wealthy business executives, according to financial reports the campaigns filed Monday with the government.
The group, Restore Our Future, raised $6.6 million in January, and had more than $16 million available at the end of the month. That financial strength allowed it to flood the airwaves in key primary states with millions of dollars in TV ads hammering Romney's opponents for the Republican presidential nomination.
Restore our Future, other groups supporting other candidates and the individual campaigns were required to disclose how much they raised and the identities of their donors in reports filed with the Federal Election Commission by midnight Monday.
The reports offer a periodic behind-the-scenes glimpse into the identities of the wealthy supporters who will help elect the next president, along with details on how the tens of millions of dollars they donated have been spent this election season.
Obama's campaign last Friday reported raising a combined $29.1 million in January among the campaign, the Democratic National Committee and other joint fundraising committees. The major super PAC backing Obama, Priorities USA Action, has yet to file its January report.
