[베이징=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 급속히 현대화하고 있는 중국해군이 장기적으로 해외작전을 증가하려는 전조로서 소말리아 해변에서 해적퇴치 초계 훈련의 강도를 높이고 있다.

17일 중국 해방군일보의 웹사이트에는 이번 주 중국 동부 난징시에 있는 해군장교대학에서 지휘관 장교 84명이 처음으로 2주 훈련을 시작한다고 올라왔다.

이 번 훈련에서는 군사 훈련, 이론 토론과 더불어 중국이 지난 번 실시한 해적 퇴치 훈련에서 얻은 경험을 상호 교환한다고 한다.

중국은 2008년 최초로 해적퇴치 초계를 실시하면서 아덴만에서 해상운송을 보호하는 목적으로 국제 연합 함대에 참가했다.

이번의 훈련은 중국 해안 지역을 방어하는 전통적인 해군의 역할에서 크게 발전된 모습을 보여주는 것이다.

Chinese navy steps up anti-piracy training

BEIJING (AP) — China's fast-modernizing navy is stepping up training for anti-piracy patrols off the coast of Somalia in a sign of its growing long-term commitment to overseas missions.

The website of the military newspaper Liberation Army Daily said Friday that the first two-week course for 84 leading officers began this week at the Naval Command College in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing. It said they will run drills and discuss military theory as well as exchange experience from China's previous anti-piracy missions.

China first launched the anti-piracy patrols in December 2008, joining an international flotilla aiming to protect shipping in the Gulf of Aden. The move marked a major break with the navy's traditional role of protecting China's coastal region.
