[테헤란=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 이란이 은행 금리를 21% 로 인상한다.
국영 미디어는 25일 마흐무드 아흐마디네자드 대통령이 시장에서 유동성을 흡수하고 이란 화폐를 지탱하기 위해 불가결하다는 경제전문가들의 주장에 반대하던 입장을 철회했다고 보도했다.
이번 금리인상은 이란 중앙은행을 목표로 하는 미국의 새 제재 조치에 압력을 받으면서 리알 화 가치가 한 달 만에 달러에 대비해 50%나 떨어지면서 단행했다.
이란의 핵 개발에 대한 분쟁으로 국제적 고립에 대한 우려가 증가하면서 리알 화 가치가 하락한 와중에. 유럽연합이 이번 주 초에 이란 원유 금수초치를 승인했다.
아흐마디네자드 대통령은 이란 자금신용위원회의 금리인상 결정에 거부반응을 보였으나 금리인상으로 시장의 유동성 흡수와 암시장에서 경화로 환전하는 대신 은행에 예금하도록 유도하는 조치를 허용했다.

Iran ups bank interest rate to buoy rial
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has approved increasing bank interest rates to 21 percent, state media reported Wednesday, in a reversal of his earlier opposition to a move economists said was crucial to absorbing liquidity in the market and supporting the Iranian currency.
The move came as the rial, under pressure after new U.S. sanctions targeting Iran's Central Bank, shed about 50 percent of its value relative to the dollar in the span of a month.
The depreciation built on already mounting worries over the country's growing international isolation over its controversial nuclear program. The European Union earlier this week approved an oil embargo on Iranian crude.
Ahmadinejad has resisted a decision by Iran's Money and Credit council to raise interest rates — a move analysts and economists said was necessary to sap excess liquidity from the market and encourage Iranians to deposit money in banks instead of turning to the black market and buying hard currency.
