[베이징=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 북한 김정일의 사망을 계기로 북한에 큰 변화의 기회가 찾아온 것과 때를 맞추어 9일 한국과 중국 정상회담이 열렸다.
이번 정상회담에서는 한국 영해에서의 중국어선의 불법 조업으로 인해 악화된 양국관계의 개선과 북한에 대한 중국의 지원이 주요 의제로 예정됐으나 갑작스런 북한 지도자의 사망이 논의로 초점이 됐다.
정치적 관계의 갈등과 대조적으로 중국과 한국의 활발한 경제 교역을 염두에 두고 중국은 일본과 중국, 한국을 포함한 3국 자유무역협정에 관한 토의를 시작하기를 희망하는 것으로 보도됐다.
양국 정상은 핵무기 보유국인 북한이 김정은 체제로 권력 이양이 순조롭게 이루어져 북한 정세가 안정되는 데에 상호 공동의 관심을 표시할 것으로 기대된다.
중국은 북한에 대해 자세한 내용을 밝히지 않는 것이 상례로 북한에 대한 외부의 간섭을 배제하려는 의도이다.
양국 간에 공동관심사는 북한의 비핵화이디. 그러나 북한을 중립지대로 유지하고 새로운 지도자 체재가 안착하는 것을 바라는 중국의 의도로 인해 현재 중단된 북한 비핵화 6자 회담의 재개는 후순위로 물러날 것으로 보인다.

China, South Korea hold summit on NKorea post-Kim
BEIJING (AP) — The presidents of South Korea and China on Monday held their first summit since Kim Jong Il's death opened the chance for major changes in North Korea, where Seoul and Beijing share vital interests as well as strong disagreements.
While North Korea is often a topic when Chinese and South Korean leaders meet, the death of its leader last month has pushed it to the center of the summit, which was to have focused on mending frayed relations over Chinese fishing fleet incursions in South Korean waters and Beijing's support for Pyongyang.
Beijing was expected to offer to open talks on a three-way free trade agreement with Japan, Chinese state media reported, highlighting the robust economic ties China and South Korea share in contrast with the strains on other fronts.
The presidents were expected to emphasize their shared concern for the stability of North Korea — poor but with nuclear weapons programs — as it makes an uncertain transition to rule by Kim's son, Kim Jong Un, and a coterie of his father's advisers.
China dislikes even talking in detail about its North Korea ally with other countries, seeing it as an invitation to meddling.
One long-term shared interest has been coaxing North Korea to relinquish its nuclear weapons programs. But in Beijing's desire to maintain North Korea as a buffer state and see its new leadership ensconced, analysts suspect it may now be placing a lower priority on resuming disarmament talks.
