[마닐라=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 필리핀은 최근 분쟁지역인 남중국해에서 중국 함선의 빈발한 침범에 대해 중국에 항의했다.
필리핀 외무부 알베르토 델 로사리오 장관은 작년 12월 11, 12일 양일 중국 군함을 포함한 3척의 함선이 남중국해 사미나 숄 근처에서 목격된 것에 대해 중국대사에게 심각한 우려를 표시했다.
베이징에서 중국의 외교부 류전민 차관은 신화통신에 남중국해의 상황은 “평화롭고 안정적이다” 라고 말하고 중국은 협상을 통해서 일부 섬에서 분쟁을 해결하고 바다의 경계선을 확정짓기를 바란다고 말했다.
분쟁의 와중에 필리핀은 미국에 대해 아시아에서 가장 취약한 필리핀의 군사력 강화를 요청하고 나섰다.
필리핀 베니그노 아키노 대통령과 고위 관리들이 2척의 함정과 F-16 제트기 1개 편대의 이양을 요구하기 위해 올해 미국을 방문할 것이라고 외무장관이 말했다.

Philippines accuses China of maritime intrusions
MANILA, Philippines (AP) — The Philippines has protested to China over three Chinese vessels that allegedly intruded into its waters last month, in the latest flaring of tensions over disputed South China Sea regions.
The Philippine government expressed its "serious concerns" to the Chinese Embassy after the three vessels, including a Chinese navy ship, were sighted near Sabina Shoal in the South China Sea on Dec. 11 and 12, Foreign Secretary Alberto del Rosario said Sunday.
In Beijing, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin told the official Xinhua News Agency that the situation in the South China Sea "is peaceful and stable." China will always opt for negotiations to peacefully resolve disputes on "some islands ... and the demarcation of parts of the sea," Liu said.
Amid the disputes, the Philippines turned to the United States, a defense-treaty ally, to strengthen its underfunded military, one of Asia's weakest.
President Benigno Aquino III and other top Philippine officials plan to travel to the United States this year to seek two more ships and a squadron of F-16 jets, according to del Rosario.
