마라케슈, 모로코 (AP) -모로코 남부의 중심도시의 번화가에 있는 관광인 상대 카페에서 대형폭탄이 터져 외국인 11명과 모로코인 3명이 사망한 사건이 발생했다.
28일 폭발로 최소 23명이 부상당한 것으로 타이브 체르카부이 내무장관이 발표했는데, 폭탄이 터진 모로코의 제마 엘 프마 광장은 관광업에 크게 의존하고 있는 모로코에서 가장 인기 있는 장소이다.
모로코 정부 대변인 AP통신에 지금까지 발견된 증거로 볼 때 테러분자의 소행이라고 단정하지는 않았지만 모로코 당국은 마그레브지역의 알카에다 조직을 정기적으로 와해하고 있으며 여러 번에 걸쳐 음모를 적발한 적이 있다고 말했다. 지방정부의 한 관리는 자살 테러범의 공격일 가능성도 있다고 말했다.
프랑스의 식민지였던 모로코는 이웃나라에 비해 비교적으로 안정되어 있고 복수의 정당을 인정하는 나라지만 국왕 모하메드 6세가 국가의 절대 권력을 쥐고 있으며 모로코의 이슬람운동 단체는 활동이 금지되어 있다.
인접국인 튀니지와 이집트에서 독재정권이 시민봉기로 축출당하면서 지난 2개월 동안 계속된 평화적 시위의 여파로 국왕은 획기적인 개헌을 약속한 바 있다.
유엔 반기문 사무총장은 “금일 터진 폭탄테러에 경악을 금치 못하며 심심한 애도를 표한다.” 고 성명서를 발표했다.
북 아프리카의 알카에다 조직은 이웃 알제리에서 정기적으로 폭탄테러와 납치행위를 자행하고 있으며 작년 니제르에서 프랑스인 4명을 납치하고 최근 그들을 찍은 비디오와 음성녹음을 보내온 적이 있다.

Terrorist attack hits cafe in Morocco, 14 dead
MARRAKECH, Morocco (AP) — A massive terrorist bombing tore through a tourist cafe in the bustling heart of Marrakech's old quarter, killing at least 11 foreigners and three Moroccans in the country's deadliest attack in eight years.
At least 23 people were wounded in the Thursday blast a few minutes before noon in Djemma el-Fna square, one of the top attractions in a country that depends heavily on tourism, Moroccan Interior Minister Taib Chergaoui said.
Government spokesman Khalid Naciri told the AP it was too soon to lay blame for what he called a terrorist attack but he noted that Morocco regularly dismantles cells linked to al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb and says it has disrupted several plots.
This former French colony has enjoyed relative stability and political plurality compared to some of its neighbors, but King Mohamed VI holds the final say in all policy, and the country's largest Islamist movement is banned from politics.
The king has pledged constitutional reforms in response to several largely peaceful protests over the past two months that were inspired by popular uprisings that pushed out autocrats in nearby Tunisia and Egypt.
The U.N. Security Council condemned the attack "in the strongest terms" and expressed condolences, while U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he was "appalled by today's bombing" and extended his "deepest sympathies," according to statements.
