[서울=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 한국은 20일 북한의 김정일 지도자의 서거에 조의를 표시하고 한국내의 저명한 인사들의 가족방북을 허용할 것이라고 발표했다.
류우익 통일부장관은 서울에서 기자회견을 갖고 공식조문단은 파견하지 않는다고 발표하면서 정부는 전임 김대중 대통령 부인 (이희호여사)의 방북을 허용한다고 말했다.
김 전 대통령은 2000년 김정일과 역사적인 정상회담을 열었다. 또한 북한과 사업관계를 갖고 있는 현대아산의 고 정몽헌 회장의 부인 (현정은 회장)도 방북이 허용된다.
류 장관은 남한은 북한이 한반도의 평화와 번영을 위해 남한과 협조할 것을 희망하고 있다고 말했다.

South Korea offers condolences to North Koreans
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea offered condolences Tuesday to North Korea's people as they mourn the death of longtime ruler Kim Jong Il and said it would allow the families of prominent South Koreans with ties to the North to visit.
Unification Minister Yu Woo-ik told reporters in Seoul that no official delegation will travel from Seoul to Pyongyang to pay respects. But he said the government will allow visits to the North by the families of former liberal President Kim Dae-jung, who held a landmark summit with Kim Jong Il in 2000, and former Hyundai Asan chairman Chung Mong-hun, who had business ties with North Korea.
South Korea hopes North Korea will cooperate with Seoul for peace and prosperity on the Korean peninsula, Yu said.
