[우요, 나이제리아=신화통신/KNS뉴스통신] 나이제리아 남부의 아크와 이봄 주의 경찰은 23세의 한 싱글 맘을 밀거래자들에게 생후 이틀된 아기를 팔아넘긴 혐의로 체포했다.
아기를 판 대가로 10만 나이라(미화 666불 상당)를 받은 후 체포된 것이다. 주 경찰청의 온예케 오르지 대변인은 주도인 우요에서 기자들에게 이 여인이 2년전에 또 다른 아기를 5만 나이라(미화 333불)에 팔았음을 자백했다고 발표하였다.
경찰은 밀거래자들로부터 아기를 사들인 포트 하트쿠르트에 있는 병원 소유주가 이들 체포된 범인 넷 중의 하나라고 말을 맺었다.
오르지 대변인은 경찰이 범인들의 다른 일당들을 추적하고 있다고 강조했다. 주 경찰은 범죄 퇴치를 강화하는 경찰에게 사회 각계에서 생생한 정보를 제공하여 경찰을 도와달라고 요청하였다

UYO, Nigeria, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's police in southeast Akwa Ibom State has arrested a 23-year-old single mother, for allegedly selling her two-day old baby to a gang of human traffickers.
The suspect was arrested by the police after collecting 100,000 naira (666 U.S. dollars) for the baby.
State police spokesperson Onyeke Orji told reporters in Uyo, the state capital on Saturday that the suspect had also confessed to the selling of another child, two years ago, for 50,000 (333 dollars).
Orji, who paraded the woman and three other suspects, alleged that the baby which was sold at 100, 000 naira was later resold by the traffickers at the sum of 470,000 naira (3133 dollars).
The police disclosed that the proprietor of a clinic in Port Harcourt, who bought the baby from the traffickers was among the four suspects arrested.
Orji stressed that the police were on the trail of other members of the gang.
The police urged members of the public to assist in releasing vital information to the police to facilitate the reductionof crimes in the state.
