[워싱턴=신화통신/KNS뉴스통신] 미국 경찰은 10주를 끌면서 매사추세츠주 보스톤시의 시위를 주도해 온 시위대 캠프에 대한 공습에서 46명을 체포함으로써 시위를 종결시켰다.
수백명의 보스톤 경찰 간부들은 토마스 메니노 시장이 소개령을 내린 이틀 뒤인 지난 10일(토) 일찍 듀이광장에 있는 캠프로 몰려갔다. 경찰은 시위 텐트를 철거하고 그 장소를 떠나기를 거부하는 시위대들을 체포하였다.
보스톤경찰 대변인 엘레인 드리스코일은 작전은 현지 시간으로 오전 5시에 시작했으며, 20여명의 시위대들이 소개령에 맞서기 위해서 모두 서로 팔짱을 끼고 앉았었다고 소식을 전했다. 경찰진압작전은 한 시간 가량 진행되었으나, 경찰과 시위대 간에 큰 불상사는 없었다.
'보스톤을 점령하라' 시위는 뉴욕에서 '월스트리트를 점령하라' 운동으로 기업체들의 탐욕과 일자리 부족 등을 규탄하기 위한 것이었는데, 이와 같은 취지의 철야 농성이 보스톤의 센트랄 파크인 보스톤 코몬에서 10일 밤에 열릴 예정이었다.
'보스톤을 점령하라' 운동은 "대기업 은행들에 부당하게 점령당한" 정부를 향하여 항의하기 위해, 반월가 시위 지지자들에게 '그들 가정의 앞마당이나 현관에 텐트를 설치하라고 요구하는 바이다' 라고 한 트위터 선동구호는 주장하고 있다.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- U.S. police arrested 46 Occupy protesters in Boston, Massachusetts, on Saturday in a raid on their encampment, bringing to an end the 10-week protest in the city.
Hundreds of Boston police officers swooped down on the encampment on the Dewey Square early Saturday, two days after Mayor Thomas Menino issued a notice of eviction.
Police torn down tents and made arrests of protesters who refused to leave, the Occupy Boston movement said in a statement posted to its Twitter account.
Boston police spokesperson Elaine Driscoll said that the operation started at 5 a.m. local time, and the arrests were made as two dozen protesters sat down with linked arms to defy the eviction order.
The police operation lasted for about an hour, during which no major violent clashes occurred. The Occupy Boston movement, which originated from New York's Occupy Wall Street movement to protest corporate greed and lack of jobs, has called for a vigil to be held Saturday evening on the Boston Common, the central public park in Boston.
In a Twitter statement, the Occupy Boston movement also urged American supporters of the Occupy movement to set up a tent on the porch or front yard of their homes to protest the government which "has been unjustly occupied by big banks."
