Malaysia Christians to preserve 'defaced' Bibles
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — A Malaysian Christian group says 5,000 imported Bibles will be preserved as "museum pieces" at churches instead of being sold for reading because authorities in this Muslim-majority country have defaced them.
The Bible Society of Malaysia's announcement is the latest twist in a dispute between Christian officials and the government over tens of thousands of Indonesian-made Bibles seized by customs authorities.
After Christian leaders voiced anger, the government agreed earlier this month to release the Bibles but stamped some of them with warnings that they were meant "for Christians only."
Rev. Simon Wong of the Bible Society said Thursday his group has collected 5,000 Bibles and will offer them to churches to preserve as a reminder of the problems they encountered.

훼손된 성경 보존하기로

말레이시아 성서공회는 기독교도 관리들과 정부 간에 벌어지는 인도네시아에서 제작한 성경 수천 권을 세관이 압류하면서 벌어진 논쟁에서 최근 새로운 방향으로 비화한 것이다.
기독교 지도자들이 분노의 목소리를 내자 말레이시아 정부는 이달초 이 성경을 배포하기로 결정하면서 성경에다 “기독교도 용” 이라는 경고문을 찍기로 했었다.
31일 성서공회의 사이먼 웡 목사는 공회에서 성경 5,000권을 수집해서 자신들이 봉착했던 문제를 상기하기 위해 각 교회에 기증하기로 했다고 한다.
