Obama authorizes secret support for Libya rebels: report
WASHINGTON, March 30 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama has signed a secret order authorizing the Central Intelligence Agency to conduct covert operations to help rebels in Libya, media reports said here on Wednesday.
Obama signed the order, known as the presidential "finding", within the last two or three weeks, reported Reuters, quoting government sources.
But so far, there is no official response from the administration.
Obama, in his interview with U.S. television networks on Tuesday, did not rule out sending arms to Libyan rebels, while U.S. media and politicians are debating whether the country should arm them.
"I think it's fair to say that if we wanted to get weapons into Libya, we probably could," he said in the interview with ABC. "We' re looking at all our options at this point."
When asked by ABC host Diane Sawyer if the U.S. will send ammunition to rebels in Libya in a day or two, Obama refused to give any details, saying he would not talk about operations "at that level."
Obama on Monday delivered a major speech defending his policy toward Libya, claiming the U.S. military intervention was to avoid civilian casualties in the North African country, and extending the goal to include regime change would be a "mistake."

29일 미국 TV 인터뷰에서 오바마 대통령은 미국의 언론과 정치인들 사이에 미국이 반군의 무장을 지원해야 하는가에 대해 논란이 있는 가운데 리비아 반군에게 무기를 보내는 것을 배제하지 안했다.
미국 ABC방송의 호스트 다이앤 소여의 질문에 대하여 오바마 대통령은 “우리가 만약 리비아에 무기를 보내려고 한다면 그렇게 할 수 있다고 하는 것 이 타당한 말이 될 것이다. 모든 가능성을 열어 놓고 있다.” 고 말했다.
미국이 리비아 반군에게 하루 이틀 안에 무기를 보급할 것인가라는 질문에 대통령은 “그 수준“의 작전에 대해 자세한 것을 말하기를 거부했다.
오바마 대통령은 28일 국민과의 대화에서 리비아의 군사개입은 민간인 사상자가 생기는 것을 방지하는 것이었다고 주장하며 정권교체를 목적으로 작전을 확대하는 것은 ”실수“가 될 것이다 고 자신의 대 리비아 정책을 옹호했다.
