[캔베라=신화통신/KNS뉴스통신] 20대 초반인 한 남자가 지난 4일 서호주의 남서부지역에서 설핑을 하던 중 상어에게 물려 숨졌다고 호주 경찰이 전했다.
경찰은 그 청년이 퍼스 남쪽 250km지점의, 벙커 베이에서 떨어진 슈가 로우프 로크라고 하는 인기관광지역에서 친구들과 보디 보딩(널빤지로 파도타기)을 하고 있을 때 상어가 공격했다고 말했다.
상어는 이 남자가 여러 명의 친구들과 함께 있는 중에 끌어가 그를 물어뜯어 하반신이 잘려나갔다고 경찰은 설명했다.

CANBERRA, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- A man in his early 20s has been killed by a shark while surfing in south-west Western Australia on Sunday afternoon,
Australian police confirmed. Police said the man was body-boarding with a friend at a popular tourist spot, Sugarloaf Rock off Bunker Bay, about 250 kilometers south of Perth, when the shark attacked.
Police said the shark snatched the man from a group of friends and savaged him so badly that the lower half of the boarder's body was torn away.
"He was body-boarding with about four of five of his mates when he was taken out of the group," a police spokesman told ABC News on Sunday. "He's lost the lower half of his body and he's deceased. "
Police said the identity of the man is known, but they are yet to notify his family. The beach has been closed due to the incident.
It is the first fatal shark attack in Australia since February, when a man diving for abalone was savaged off South Australia.
According to official data, fatal shark attacks are rare in Australia, with just 24 recorded deaths in Australia in the 20 years up to June 2009.
