Taiwan: China developed missile with more range
TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Taiwan's top spy says China has developed a new missile with more range for possible use against the island.
In remarks to the Legislature on Wednesday, National Security Bureau Director-General did not say if the Dongfeng 16 has already been deployed.
While relations between the sides have improved recently, China has more than 1,300 missiles already aimed at the island.
Director-General Tsai told lawmakers that the Dongfeng 16 has a longer range than anything in China's current anti-Taiwan arsenal, but did not provide details about its capabilities.
Taiwan and China split amid civil war in 1949. China still claims the democratic island as part of its territory and has threatened to use force to prevent it from making its de facto independence permanent.
