[베이징/AP통신] 농업노동자들을 자택으로 데려다 주던 한 트럭이 중국 동부의 산악지역에서 방향을 틀다가 뒤집혀 16명이 사망했다.
노동자들은 푸젠성 지방 인근에서 배를 따고 장시성의 자택으로 돌아가던 중이었다.
장시성 당국은 트럭에 있던 28명 중 24명이 여자였다고 밝혔다.
트럭에 있던 사람들 중 10명이 지난 23일 밤에 일어난 이 사고로 부상을 입고 병원에서 치료를 받았다.
중국에서는 농업노동자들이 열악한 보호를 제공하는 지붕이 없는 트럭이나 3개의 바퀴가 달린 픽업트럭으로 이송되어 사고가 나는 경우가 많다.
중국 당국은 사고의 여러 비극을 잇따르게 하는 형편없는 도로 안전을 향상시키려 노력 중이다.
대부분의 사고는 과적 차량, 운전사의 피로나 운전 능력부족, 파괴된 도로로 인해 발생한다.

BEIJING (AP) — A truck carrying agricultural workers home flipped while making a turn in a mountainous area of eastern China, killing 16 people.
The workers were returning to their homes in Jiangxi province after picking pears in neighboring Fujian province.
The Jiangxi government said 24 of the 28 people on the truck were women. Ten people were hospitalized with injuries after Tuesday night's crash.
Agricultural workers are often transported in open trucks or three-wheeled pickups that offer little protection in the event of accidents.
China has been trying to improve its poor road safety record following a string of tragedies involving school buses.
Most accidents are caused by overloaded vehicles, tired or unsafe drivers, and badly maintained roads.
