[KNS뉴스통신=황세바 기자] 故송인우 선생(1965년생)이 지난 2021년 2월 15일, 경기도 일산시에서 심장마비로 별세했다.
Master Song In-woo (born in 1965) passed away in Ilsan, Gyeonggi-do (Seoul suburbs) on February 15th 2021, following a heart attack.
송 선생은 한국의 대표적인 전통연희인 국가무형문화재 제34호 강령탈춤의 이수자이다.
Song In-woo was a teacher and performer of the Mask dance of Gangnyeong Talchum (classified as South Korea's 34th Intangible Asset).
이북 전통문화예술의 마지막 보고라고 불리셨던 양소은 선생께 사사 받았으며, 일생을 강령탈춤의 바른 전수와 그 춤을 알리기 위해 일생을 보냈다.
As a disciple of Living Human Asset YANG So-eun who was also known as "the last treasure of traditional Korean cultural arts from North Korea", SONG dedicated his whole life to the correct teaching and promotion of the Korean mask dance (and traditional theatre) of Gangnyeong.

‘강령’은 북한 황해도에 있는 지역 이름이며, 그 주변지역 봉산과 은율에서도 탈춤이 추어졌다.
Gangnyeong (also spelled Kangryŏng) is the name of a county in the Hwangae province in current North Korea. It is located near the counties of Bongsan and Eunyul (also spelled Pongsan and Ŭnnyul) which are also known for their mask dances.
1990년대 전성기 이후 전처럼 인기를 누리지 못하고 있는 이 한국전통예술은 뮤지컬과 비슷한 점이 많다. 또한 이 가치 있는 전통문화예술은 해외에도 많이 알려져야 한다고 생각한다.
After its golden age in the 1990's, this underrated traditional Korean art has not been able to gain as much popularity as before in Korea although it shares numerous attributes with modern musical comedies, and is still yet to be discovered abroad.
송 선생의 수업은 전통적인 방식으로 진행되어 힘들었지만 열정적이었다. 제자들은 춤의 동작을 익히기위해 몸이 강해져야했고, 끝 없는 반복과 많은 연습을 해야 했다. 탈춤 반주에 춤을 추며, 재담(대사)과 춤 순서를 기억해야 했다.
Song was teaching in the traditional way and so, classes were hard but led with fervor. The dance required students to strengthen their body and repeat the movements endlessly. They had to memorize the storytelling and the dance sequences of their character, following the music played by the drums and gongs.
그리고 공연과 전승을 위해 열심히 수련 했다. 제자들 대부분 일인다역을 맡았다. 어떤 역할은 노래 부르는 것도 있고, 대화와 마임적인 요소들도 있어 춤 뿐 아니라 다양한 표현력을 기르고 연습해야 한다.
Students trained in a hard way for the transmission of the oral tradition and the performances in public. Most students would perform several parts. Some roles required singing or had dialogues and mime all which had to be memorized and acted in addition to dancing.
송 선생은 제자들을 엄격하게 가르치며 늘 최고를 목표했다. 제자들의 실력이 뛰어나게 되길 원했고 강령탈춤에 담긴 깊은 뜻을 다시 세상에 전하고 싶어 했다.
Master SONG was exigeant and aimed at the best. He wished for his students to excel at the art of Gangnyeong Talchum and he hoped to transmit the deep meaning contained in it to the world.
글을 쓰고 있는 나는 운 좋게 송인우 선생을 만날 수 있었고 일 년 이상 수업을 받았다. 거의 주말 마다 선생님의 수업에 참가하고 춤의 기본을 수련 했다.
I personally had the chance to meet him and attend his class for over a year. I would attend classes in Ilsan almost every week-end and study the basics of the art.
전통 무예 택견 지도자라서 그 춤을 배우는것이 힘들지 않다고 생각했지만 생각보다 매우 힘들었다.
As a teacher of the Korean dance-like martial art Taekkyeon, I thought learning the dance wouldn't be too difficult but it was actually way much harder than I thought.
수업은 큰 노력을 요하였고 심장 강화 운동, 강한 하체 근육단련, 유연성 그리고 리듬감과 춤사위의 조화, 반복훈련을 통한 체화과정이 필요했다.
Classes were demanding and required a strong cardio, tonic legs, flexibility and of course a sense of rhythm and memory for the movements as for any dance but I also had to work on the harmony of my movements to match the upper body and arms with the legs. It required repeated training and assimilation.
송 선생의 웃는 눈, 좋은 마음은 항상 기억 할 것이다. 또한 선생의 바른 언행과 선생의 진실된 마음을 기억 할 것이다.
From Teacher Song I will always remember his smiling eyes and good heart. As well as his way of talking with righteousness, and his truthful heart.
화자는 송 선생의 가르침에 감사를 표하는 바이다. 또한, 늘 함께 하시고 늘 따뜻하게 대해주신 이혜경 스승께도 감사를 전한다. 또한, 기자에게 도움을 준 송선생님의 제자들에게도 고마움을 표하고 싶다. 특히, 춤에 대해 자세히 알려주신 친절한 조은성선생(탈무브먼트 대표)과 춤 연습을 함께한 뛰어난 실력을 가진 김홍모 선배에게도 고맙다.
