[런던=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 영불 해협 터널을 통과하는 고속열차의 이용자가 유럽연합 역외 여행객의 급속한 증가에 힘입어 지난 해 2% 증가하여 970만 명에 달했다고 유로스타가 밝혔다.
유로스타는 8일 총 수입이 8% 증가하여 8억 300만 파운드로 2천 80만 파운드 (3천 280만 달러)의 순이익을 올렸다고 발표했다.
런던, 파리와 브뤼셀 간을 운행하는 유로스타는 27개 유럽연합 역외 권 여행객이 20% 증가하여 총 승객의 9%에 달했다고 발표했다.
유로스타는 3개국이 운영하는 국영회사로 프랑스의 철도회사 SNCF가 주식의 55%, 벨기에의 SNCB가 5%, 나머지 40%는 영국의 런던엔컨티넨탈 레일웨이즈가 소유하고 있다.

Eurostar 2011 passenger numbers up 2 percent
LONDON (AP) — High-speed rail operator Eurostar says passenger numbers on its services through the Channel Tunnel rose by 2 percent last year to 9.7 million, boosted by a sharp increase in travelers from outside the European Union.
Eurostar said Thursday that revenue increased by 6 percent to 803 million pounds, yielding a net profit of 20.8 million pounds ($32.8 million).
The carrier, which operates trains from London to Brussels and Paris, said the number of passengers from outside the 27-country EU rose by 20 percent, and accounted for 9 percent of the total.
Eurostar is owned by three nationalized businesses: French rail system SNCF has a 55 percent stake, while Belgium's SNCB owns 5 percent and Britain's London and Continental Railways the remaining 40 percent
