[아테네, 그리스=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 6일 그리스 의회는 막대한 부채를 줄이고 극심한 불경기를 완화시키기 위해 이미 실행하고 있는 긴축재정을 연장하는 내년도 긴축예산을 압도적인 다수 찬성으로 승인했다.
다수 여당인 사회당을 위시해서 경쟁당인 보수당과 연립 3당은 총 300석의 그리스 의회의원가운데 258대 41로 예산을 가결했다.
루카스 파파데모스 그리스 총리는 자정이 지나 가결된 투표를 마치고 난 이후 “내년예산은 어렵고도 야심적인 목표를 잡고 있다“ ”그러나 목표를 달성해야 하고 예정된 조치들을 실시해야 한다“고 기자들에게 말했다.
처음 유럽을 위기로 몰아넣은 역할을 했던 그리스는 거액의 예산삭감을 전제로 제공되는 국제 구제 금융으로 연명하고 있다. 그리스의 금융위기로 유로존뿐만 아니라 유럽연합에서 축출당하는 상항까지 내 몰리기도 했었다. 파파데모스 총리는 그리스는 유럽에 속하고 그리스가 없는 유럽은 상상할 수 없다 지적했다.
예산 심의가 종료되는 시점하고 경찰에 의해 한 10대 소년이 경찰의 총기로 살해당한 3주기가 맞물려 의회 앞에서는 수백 명의 시위대와 진압경찰의 충돌이 벌어졌다.
예산심의 과정에서 보수당의 안토니오 사마라스 당수는 이미 통과된 긴축조치들에 대해 아직도 반대하고 있지만 긴급한 부채감축을 위해 예산안에 동의했다고 말했다.
사마라스 당수는 증세가 경제 활성화를 막는 잘못된 조치라고 주장하면서 2년 동안 강한 목소리로 긴축 조치의 반대를 주장했었다.

Greek lawmakers approve 2012 austerity budget
ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greece's lawmakers overwhelmingly approved next year's austerity budget early Wednesday, extending tough spending cuts that have already left Greeks struggling as the country tries to slash its vast debts and tame a severe recession.
With three parties, including the majority socialists and their rival conservatives, participating in Greece's new coalition government, the budget was passed with a 258-41 majority in the 300-seat Parliament.
"This is a difficult budget ... with ambitious targets," Prime Minister Lucas Papademos told lawmakers just before the after-midnight vote. "But we must achieve our targets and implement the measures that are foreseen."
Greece's acute debt woes have triggered a Europe-wide crisis and the country is surviving on international rescue loans, released on condition it implements deeply resented cutbacks. The crisis has even prompted talk of the country being forced out of the eurozone — or even the European Union — both of which Papademos insisted were out of the question.

The end of the budget debate coincided with the third anniversary of a fatal police shooting of a teenager in central Athens, and as lawmakers spoke clashes broke out in front of Parliament between hundreds of anarchists and riot police during a commemorative march.
Speaking inside the building during the debate, conservative party leader Antonis Samaras said his objections to many of the austerity measures already passed remained, but that he was backing the budget as the priority now was to reduce the debt.
Samaras was a vocal critic of the austerity measures over the past two years, insisting that increased taxation in particular was the wrong method and that taxes should be cut in order to stimulate the economy.
