[카이로=AP/KNS] 분노한 이집트 시위자들이 9일(현지시각) 수도 카이로에 위치한 이스라엘 대사관에 난입해 건물을 둘러싼 시멘트 장벽을 무너뜨리고 창문 밖으로 서류를 내던지는 등 폭력사태를 일으키자 경찰은 경계 태세에 돌입했다.

이번 사태로 호스니 무바라크의 퇴진 이후 악화되고 있는 이스라엘과 이집트 양국의 관계가 더욱 나빠졌다. 이스라엘 대사와 그의 가족은 급히 공항으로 달려가 이집트를 떠났다.

국영 MENA 통신에 따르면 밤사이 수천명의 시위자들과 경찰 사이에 일어난 충돌로 448명이 부상을 입었으며 경찰은 군중을 해산시키기 위해 최루탄을 사용했다. 46명의 경찰 또한 부상을 입었으며 시위자 17명이 구속됐다.

Cairo (AP) -- Egypt put its police force on a state of alert after a night of violence during which angry protesters broke into the Israeli Embassy in Cairo, tearing down a cement barrier around the building and dumping documents out of the windows.

The rampage further worsened already deteriorating ties between Israel and post-Hosni Mubarak Egypt. The Israeli ambassador and his family had rushed to the airport and left the country.

The state MENA news agency says 448 people were injured in overnight clashes between thousands of protesters and police, who fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. Forty-six policemen were also hurt and 17 protesters were arrested.
