South Korean prices rise 4.5 percent in February
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea's inflation rate has stayed above 4 percent for a second straight month amid global worries over rising costs for food and raw materials.
Statistics Korea said in a report Wednesday that the consumer price index increased 4.5 percent in February from the year before amid costlier food products. It rose 4.1 percent in January.
The figures are beyond the South Korean central bank's "tolerance range" of plus or minus one percentage point from its inflation target of 3 percent.
The Bank of Korea has raised its benchmark interest rate three times since July of last year amid inflation worries. The bank's monetary policy committee left the key borrowing cost un changed last month and next meets on March 10.

서울 (AP) - 한국의 물가 상승률은 식료품과 원자제 가격 상승에 대한 세계적 악재가 확산되는 가운데 두 달 연속 4퍼센트를 넘는 상승률을 보였다.
한국 통계청에 의하면 소비자 물가지수는 식료품 가격인상의 영향으로 2월 작년 동기에 비해 4.5퍼센트 올랐다고 보고했다. 1월 인상률은 4.1% 였다.
2월 상승률은 한국은행의 소비자 물가 목표 상승률 3퍼센트 에서 1퍼센트 플러스 마이너스한 허용치를 벗어나는 수치이다.
한국은행은 인플레이션이 우려되는 가운데 지난해 7월 이후 세 차례에 걸쳐 기준 이자률을 인상한 바 있다. 한국은행 금융통화위원회는 지난달에 기준 이자률을 인상하지 않고 다음 3월 10일 에 다시 모임을 가질 예정이다.
