[카라카스=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 석유수출국기구(OPEC)는 베네수엘라의 석유매장량이 사우디아라비아를 능가한다고 21일 밝혔다. 그러나 이러한 매장량은 서류상의 숫자에 불과하며 석유시장에 영향을 미치지는 않을 것으로 관측되고 있다.
석유수출국기구는 지난 주 발표한 연례 통계 보고서에서 베네수엘라의 석유매장량이 2,950억 배럴로 사우디아라비아의 2,645억 배럴을 추월했다고 발표했다.
텍사스에 본부를 둔 프레스티지 이코노믹스사의 오스틴 사장과 에너지업계는 “매장량 숫자는 석유수출국기구내의 기본적 역학관계에 변화를 가져오지 않는다”고 언급했다.
베네수엘라의 원유는 고중질유로 채유와 정유과정이 기술적으로 어렵고 비용이 많이 드는 것으로 알려졌다.

OPEC: Venezuela's oil reserves top Saudi Arabia
CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — OPEC's latest figures have Venezuela as the country with the biggest proven crude oil reserves ahead of Saudi Arabia. But analysts said Wednesday it's an increase largely on paper and unlikely to lead to changes within the organization or affect oil markets.
Venezuela's proven crude reserves have risen to 296.5 billion barrels, surpassing Saudi Arabia's more than 264.5 billion barrels, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries said in its annual statistical report issued last week.
"I don't necessarily think it's going to change the fundamental dynamics at OPEC," said Jason Schenker, an energy analyst and president of Austin, Texas-based Prestige Economics LLC.
He and other analysts said Venezuela's reserves have apparently grown by including more of the country's unconventional extra-heavy crude, which is much more difficult and expensive to extract from the ground and to process than oil found else where.
