Security Council condemns Libya crackdown
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. Security Council on Tuesday condemned Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's crackdown on anti-government protesters and demanded an immediate end to the violence.
A press statement agreed to by all 15 council members expressed "grave concern" at the situation in Libya and condemned the violence and use of force against civilians, and "deplored the repression against peaceful demonstrators, and expressed deep regret at the deaths of hundreds of civilians."
Council members also asked that international human rights monitors and humanitarian agencies be given immediate access, and appealed for humanitarian assistance amid reports of shortages of medical supplies to treat the wounded.
The council underlined the need for the Libyan government to respect the rights to peaceful assembly, free expression and press freedom.
The council issued the statement hours after Gadhafi vowed in a television address to keep fighting to his "last drop of blood" and urged his supporters to take to the streets, setting the stage for even more deadly violence.
Libya's deputy U.N. ambassador Ibrahim Dabbashi, who has called for Gadhafi to step down, said the council statement was "not strong enough" but was "a good message to the regime in Libya about stopping the bloodshed."
유엔 안전보장위사회 리비아 시위 진압 규탄
US 안전보장이사회는 카다피 리비아 지도자에게 반정부시위대의 진압을 폭력으로 진압한 것을 비난 하며 즉각적인 중단을 요구했다.
언론에 발표한 보도문에서 15개국 이사회는 리비아사태는 “중대한 우려“ 라고 의견을 같이하고 ”평화로운 민간인의 시위를 폭력과 무력으로 진압 한것을 비난하며 수백명에 달한 희생자가 발생한 것에 유감“을 표시했다.
위사회는 국제인권단체에 의한 감시와 부상자 치료에 필요한 의약품 부족사태가 보도되고 있는 가운데 인권단체들의 즉각적인 입국과 인도적 지원을 요청했다.
위사회는 리비아정부에 대해 평화로운 집회, 의사표현과 언론의 자유를 존중해야 한다고 강조했다.
안전보장위사회는 “마지막 피한방울” 까지 싸울것 이며 그의 추종자들에게 길거리로 나가라고 촉구함으로써 시위을 더한층 유혈사태로 번지게 한 카다피의 TV연설이 있은지 수시간 후에 성명서를 내 보냈다.
리비아 유엔 부대사 아부라힘 다바시는 카다피의 하야를 촉구한 후 이사회의 성명서로는 충분하지는 않지만 리비아정부에게 유혈사태를 막아야 한다는 좋은 메시지였다고 말했다.
