중국환경부 리 간지에 차관은 15일 환경부 웹사이트에 올린 성명서에서 현재 중국에서 가동 중인 13기의 원자로는 유럽과 미국에서 실시하고 있는 절차에 따라 검사를 마쳤다고 발표했다.
리 차관은 현재 건설 중인 28기의 원자로에 대한 안전검사를 10월 까지 마치겠다고 말했다.
중국의 야심찬 원자력 개발 계획을 변경할 것이라는 아무런 징후가 없는 가운데 리 차관은 일본 핵 위기 여파로 중국 원자력 전반에 대한 정밀 검사를 촉구했었다.
중국은 2020년 까지 100여기의 원자로를 가동할 계획을 갖고 있으면서 전국적인 핵안전 계획이 수립될때까지 새로운 허가를 내주지 않고 있었다. 중국은 현재 석탄에 과도하게 의존하는 부족한 에너지를 보충하기 위해 원자력 발전의 확대가 급선무로 생각하고 있다.
리 차관은 “후쿠시마 사고는 현재 진행 중이나 여파가 너무 크기 때문에 이번 사고로 중요한 교훈을 얻었다”고 말한 것으로 알려졌다.

China says its nuclear reactors passed inspections
BEIJING (AP) — China's nuclear regulators have given the country's reactors a clean bill of health following inspections ordered after the disaster at Japan's tsunami-struck Fukushima Dai-ichi facility.
Inspections have been completed on all 13 of China's currently operating reactors in a process very similar to those in place in Europe and the United States, Vice Environment Minister Li Ganjie said in a statement posted on the ministry's website Wednesday.
Further safety reviews of 28 reactors now under construction should be completed by October, Li said.
Li has called for a major overhaul of China's nuclear oversight in the wake of Japan's disaster, although there have been no signs that China plans to diverge from its ambitious program to develop the industry.
China intends to have more than 100 reactors in operation by 2020, but has suspended issuing permits for new plants until a national nuclear safety plan is completed. China says the expansion is necessary to fuel an energy-hungry economy that is overwhelmingly dependent on coal.
"The Fukushima accident is still being handled and the data is still being sorted, but overall, the effects have been profound and have taught us a major lesson," Li was quoted as saying.
