여론조사기관 퓨 글로벌 애티튜드 프로젝트가 성인 700명을 대상으로 4월 8-27일에 전화통화방식으로 실시한 조사에서 지진과 쓰나미 피해지역인 동북부 주민을 대상에서 제외되었다.
또한 일본인들은 전력의 30%를 차지하는 원자력 발전에 대해 의견이 나눠져 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 일본인 8%만이 원자력 발전을 늘려야 한다고 생각하고, 46%는 현상유지, 44%는 줄이는 쪽을 선택한 것으로 조사되었다.

Japan quake will make country stronger: poll
WASHINGTON (AP) — Most Japanese believe their country will become stronger not weaker after the March 11 earthquake that killed thousands, despite increased pessimism about the economy, an opinion poll released Wednesday found.
But nearly six-in-ten of respondents are worried that they or someone in their family may have been exposed to radiation from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant that was stricken in the magnitude-9.0 quake and tsunami, triggering the worst nuclear crisis since Chernobyl in 1986.
The poll of 700 adults by the Pew Research Center's Global Attitudes Project was conducted by landline telephone April 8-27 and did not include those living in northeastern areas most affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
The survey finds the Japanese public is divided on whether on the future use of nuclear power, which has provided 30 percent of the nation's electricity. While only 8 percent believe Japan should increase its use of nuclear power, 46 percent favor maintaining it at current levels. Some 44 percent think the use of nuclear power should be reduced.
The disaster has deepened pessimism over Japan's economy, for which the government has estimated an infrastructure repair bill in excess of $200 billion. It has also hit output among Japanese manufacturers.
While 58 percent of respondents believe that Japan will become a stronger nation as a result of the disaster, 52 percent expect economic conditions to worsen over the next 12 months. In 2010, when Japan showed signs of recovering from the global recession, only 33 percent of the Japanese public thought economic conditions would deteriorate in the coming year.
