[런던(잉글랜드)=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 맨체스터 유나이티드가 아스널의 스트라이커인 네덜란드 출신 로빈 판 페르시 영입에 성공하며 올 시즌 우승을 향한 기동력을 완벽히 구성했다.
15일(현지시각)맨유와 아스널은 공식 홈페이지를 통해 이적 사실을 공표하며 입단의 마지막 코스인 메디컬 테스트를 받기 위해 맨체스터를 찾아 계약서에 사인할 예정이라고 밝혔다.
정확한 양측 구단 간 이적료가 공식적으로 발표되진 않았지만 맨유가 제시한 2천만 파운드(약 3,130만 달러)에 아스널이 합의하며 이적이 구체화된 것으로 알려졌다.
아스널 측은 "판 페르시의 이적에 합의했다. 오는 목요일 맨체스터로 이동, 개인 협상 및 메디컬 테스트만 남겨둔 상황"이라며 이적이 확정됐음을 알렸다.
맨유 측도 "판 페르시의 이적이 거의 완료됐다. 메디컬 테스트가 끝나면 완벽하게 맨체스터의 팀원이 될 것"이라고 밝혔다.
네덜란드 출신인 판 페르시는 지난 2004년 폐예노르에서 이적해 2011-2012 잉글리시프리미어리그에서 30골 득점에 성공하며 득점왕에 올랐다. 하지만 그는 계약 기간이 1년 여 남짓 남은 상황에서 소속팀인스널의 계약 연장을 거부하면서 이적 의지를 내비쳤다.
그의 이적에는 지난 2005년 이후 무관에 그친 팀 아스널에 대한 불만이 작용한 것으로 분석된다. 우승과 멀어진 아스널을 등진 선수들은 판 페르시 이전에 맨체스터 시티로 이적한 파미르 나스리를 비롯, 바르셀로나로 이적한 세스크 파브레가스 등으로 그들도 결국 '이적'을 택했다.
특히 아스널을 떠난 판 페르시는 이적 이전 분데스리카 최고 공격수인 루카스 포돌스키의 영입으로 자신의 설 자리가 상대적으로 줄어들 것이라는 예상 역시 그의 이적에 불을 붙은 것으로 분석되고 있다.
최고의 공격수를 영입한 맨유는 오는 시즌 웨인 루니와 판 페르시의 결합으로 최전방에 투톱을 가동할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
맨유 알렉스 퍼거슨 감독은 일본 출신의 카카와 신지도 비싼 이적료를 주고 데리고 온 상황이기에 루니-페르시 라인의 한 명이 결장하게 될 경우 대체 카드로 사용하기 보다는 지난 프리시즌에서 새로운 포지션에서 뛴 카가와를 중미에 쓸 가능성이 높다는 것이 전문가들의 입장이다.
LONDON (AP) — Manchester United is set to complete the signing of Robin van Persie from Arsenal on Thursday after the Premier League rivals reached an agreement over the sale of the Netherlands striker.
Both clubs released statements on their websites on Wednesday saying personal terms still needed to be finalized and that a deal was subject to a medical examination.
No financial details were disclosed by either United or Arsenal, although British media has reported that the London club wanted 20 million pounds ($31.3 million) for its captain, who has one year left on his contract.
"Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Robin van Persie to Manchester United," the Arsenal statement said. "Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move."
The Dutchman, who joined from Feyenoord in 2004, was the Premier League's top scorer last season with 30 goals. But he has refused to sign a new contract with Arsenal, saying he wasn't happy with the direction the club was heading.
Arsenal hasn't won a trophy since 2005 and has been unable to keep hold of its leading players in recent seasons, with midfielders Cesc Fabregas joining Barcelona and no fewer than four players have left for Premier League champion Manchester City - Samir Nasri, Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure and Gael Clichy - since 2009.
