NATO decides to take full command of Libya mission
BRUSSELS, March 27 (Xinhua) -- NATO's top decision-making body decided on Sunday to implement all aspects of the UN resolution on Libya, thus paving the way for the alliance to take over full command of the military operations against Libya from the United States.
NATO Secretary-general Anders Fogh Rasmussen announced following a special session of NATO ambassadors that "NATO allies have decided to take on the whole military operation in Libya under the United Nations Security Council resolution."
A NATO official said that ambassadors approved on Sunday the airstrike plans against Libyan ground forces to protect civilians, broadening the alliance's previous role of enforcing the no-fly zone and arms embargo.
The latest decision will pave the way for NATO to assume full command of Libya operations from the United States next week, as the latter has been eager to step back and in favor of NATO to take the reins.
However, while disputes over the military command structure involving France, the United States, Britain and Turkey are about to settle down, who will lead politically still remains elusive.
Britain will host an international conference on Libya in London on Tuesday, which is expected to set "the wide political guidance" for the military operation as NATO takes the full military command.

최근의 결정은 리비이에서 발을 빼고 나토에게 주도권을 넘겨주려는 미국에게서 다음 주부터 나토가 군사 작전권을 물려받을 수 있는 길을 터 주었다.
그러나 프랑스, 미국, 영국 과 터키사이에 군사지휘권 계통에 대한 이견이 아직도 남아있고 정치적 지휘권도 명시되어 있지 않다.
영국은 나토가 군사작전 지휘권을 갖게 됨으로서 29일 런던에서 “광범위한 정치적 지침”을 마련하기 위한 리비아에 관한 연합국 회담을 개최할 예정이다.
