[파그아사=AP/KNS뉴스통신] 일단의 필리핀 국회의원이 중국의 비난을 무릅쓰고 자국의 영유권을 주장하기 위해 석유자원이 풍부한 남중국해 분쟁해역을 방문했다.
4명으로 구성된 의원단은 20일 필리핀이 자국 영토라고 주장하고 있는 스프레틀리 제도 (Spratly Islands)를 방문했다.
중국은 남중국해 전역이 자국의 영토이며, 19일 필리핀 의원단의 방문은 양국관계를 해치는 행위라고 주장했다.
이번 방문단은 정부 직원과 주둔 군인들과 함께 필리핀 국가를 부르고 국기를 계양한 것으로 알려졌다.

Filipino lawmakers visit disputed isle, defy China
PAG-ASA ISLAND, South China Sea (AP) — A group of Filipino lawmakers has flown to a Philippine-occupied island in the disputed South China Sea to assert their country's claim to the potentially oil-rich region in defiance of China's protest that the visit threatens regional stability.
Dozens of Filipino troops and sun-burned villagers on Wednesday welcomed the four-member congressional delegation on Pag-asa. Although tiny and a large part of it made up of a gravel airstrip, the island is the biggest in a cluster of the Spratly Islands that the Philippines claims as it own.
China claims the entire South China Sea and said Tuesday the trip would sabotage bilateral ties.
The visitors, government employees and troops sang the national anthem after a Philippine flag was raised on the island.
