More bauxite rich sites identified in Fiji's Bua area: official
SUVA, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Fiji's Lands and Mineral Resources Ministry
said on Tuesday that more bauxite rich sites have been identified in the
island nation's northern area of Bua.
The ministry's acting permanent secretary Filimoni Kau
told media that while cabinet's approval is being sought for
Xinfa Aurum's bauxite mining to begin in Nawailevu in Bua, the
Chinese company has revealed that they have identified other
prospecting sights in the area.
Bauxite is the ore from which aluminum is extracted.
The Xinfa Aurum company has entered into an agreement
with four landowning units in Bua to start bauxite mining in
April this year, though it is awaiting the clearance from the
Fijian cabinet for a 20-year mining lease.
Fijian villagers are excited about job opportunities
through the mining project.
Provincial officer in Bua Jale Sigarara told media
earlier that the landowning units of Noro, Nawailevu,
Navakasiga and Burenitu are all happy with the co-operation
between the Chinese investor Xinfa Aurum and the Fijian
government as this would mean a new source of income for many
of the unemployed in the villages.
The land owners and the Chinese company are currently
awaiting formal endorsement of the Land Use Regulation by the
cabinet after which a lease will be handed over to begin
operations.
All negotiations of royalty and lease payments over the
new bauxite mining in Bua have to be finalized before a
surface lease is issued.
Kau confirmed that they were only waiting for certain
decisions by the cabinet under the new Land Use Regulation to
allow the ministry to issue the surface lease to the Chinese
company XINFA Aurum, adding "once the surface lease is issued
then the company can start construction work."

수바, 2월15일(신화) -- 피지의 국토광물자원부 장관은 다량의 추가 보크사이트 광맥이 피지 북방 부라에서 발견되었다고 확인하였다.
국토광물자원부의 상임수석 필리모니 카우에 의하면 중국 기업 신파 오룸이 부아의 나우알리부에서 보크사이트 채광을 개시하는데 대해 내각이 심사하는 중에도, 이 중국 기업이 가망성 높은 다른 지역도 발견중임을 발표하였다고 한다.
보크사이트는 알루미늄이 추출되는 원광이다. 신파 오룸 회사는 아직 피지 내각으로부터 이 광물에 대한 20년 채광권 허가를 기다리면서, 부아에 있는 4개 처의 토지소유권자들과 올해 4월부터 보크사이트 채광을 시작한다는 계약을 체결하였다.
피지 주민들은 광산 프로젝트에 따른 고용 기회를 바라며 고무되어 있다.
부아 제일 시가라라의 도백은 노로, 나와이레부, 나바카시가와 부레니투의 토지소유권 주체들이 다수의 마을 실업자들을 위해 새로운 수입원을 창출한다는 이유에서, 중국의 신파 오룸 투자기업과 피지 정부의 협력에 대해 모두 만족한다고 일찍이 언론에 밝힌 바 있다.
각 지주들과 중국 기업은 사업 가동을 위해 토지 임대가 양도되도록 현재 내각으로부터 토지 사용권의 공식 승인을 기다리고 있다.
부아에서의 보크사이트 채광 로열티와 임대료 지급 등 일제의 협상은 광산 대지의 임대 시행 이전에 마무리돼야 한다.
그들은 피지의 신 토지사용 법률안을 적용해 중국 기업 신파 오룸이 광산 대지를 임대할 수 있게 하는 모종의 내각 결정만 기다리고 있는 상태임을 카우 상임수석은 확인했는데, “광산대지 임대가 이뤄지면 중국 기업은 건설작업을 개시할 수 있다”라는 문구도 첨가돼 있다.
